This rare species of Syzygium comes from the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, where it grows in tropical rainforests. It is particularly striking with its long, elegantly elongated leaves with pronounced veins, which can grow up to 50 cm long. The plant blooms directly on the stem, which is typical for this genus, and its flowers attract bees. After flowering, it produces pink-red, sweet fruits with a single round seed. Scientific research indicates that many Sulawesi species of Syzygium are still awaiting official description, and this species is one of them - this also makes it a botanical rarity.
The plant requires a well-permeable, slightly moist substrate and regular watering, in which it is important to avoid waterlogging. It is advisable to protect young plants from direct sunlight and grow them in a bright place with bright but diffused light. It is suitable for higher air humidity and stable temperatures in the range of 18–24 °C. In winter, it is advisable to limit watering.
The fruits are valued not only for their taste, but also for their vitamin C content and a number of bioactive substances with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and potentially anti-tumor effects.
