Campo Ramón – a secret from the Argentine tropics

From the enchanting province of Misiones in Argentina comes a real rarity among tropical fruit plants. Jaboticaba Campo Ramón impresses not only with its exotic origin, but also with its beautiful dark purple fruits that grow up to 3.5 cm in size. Inside is a pinkish pulp with a completely unique taste – as if you were tasting a cherry with a drop of pineapple. Sweet, juicy, delicate… and so distinctive that you will not confuse it with any other jaboticaba.

The plant grows surprisingly quickly and often starts to bear fruit between the fifth and seventh year. In suitable conditions, it is resistant and can handle short-term frosts down to -6 °C. Thanks to its compact growth, wavy leaves and beautiful branch structure, it is perfect for growing in a flower pot by the window, in a heated greenhouse or as a bonsai. Moreover, it blooms and bears fruit repeatedly throughout the year, so it can delight you more than just once a year.

Campo Ramón is also exceptional in how it behaves after ripening – the fruits begin to ferment naturally after 3-4 days, which is evidence of their extraordinary sugar content. It is therefore also great for making jams, homemade wines or sweet liqueurs. But its greatest charm is still when consumed fresh – when you pluck a fruit straight from the branch and crack it open in your hand… that is a moment you will never forget.

We grew this variety from seeds imported directly from Argentina – a place where Campo Ramón jaboticabas are grown only in small quantities and are admired for their appearance, vitality and taste. Compared to common jaboticabas such as Sabara, it is more resistant to leaf loss in winter, grows faster and its fruits are larger and more aromatic. In addition, they contain powerful antioxidants that benefit the health of the lungs, skin and digestive system.

Campo Ramón is a tropical treasure that has won the hearts of collectors and growers around the world. Available in very limited quantities here. Once you taste it, you'll understand why.
