Myrciaria tenella var. "Red" is a rare red-fruited form of the Brazilian species Cambuí, which is gaining popularity among collectors of exotic plants and lovers of unusual fruits. It comes from the coastal regions of Brazil, where it grows in restinga forests on sandy soils exposed to wind and sun. Due to its compact growth, it is ideal for growing in containers.

The plant forms a dense, slow-growing shrub with small shiny leaves and a very decorative appearance. It is also popular among bonsai growers due to its naturally compact growth. It grows slowly, but will reward the patient grower with a regular harvest of attractive fruits.
There are several color variants of plants with yellow, red and red pods.

The fruits are small, round and when ripe they turn translucent red, which almost glows in the sun. The pulp is juicy and has an excellent sweet-sour taste with a pleasant tropical aroma. The fruits are excellent for direct consumption straight from the plant.

Cambuí is suitable for growing in a well-drained substrate in a bright location. It appreciates regular watering, but does not tolerate prolonged waterlogging. Although it comes from tropical regions, it can tolerate colder conditions for a short time, as long as the temperatures do not drop below freezing.

If you are looking for an unusual and rare fruit plant suitable for a pot, which does not take up too much space and at the same time attracts attention with its appearance and tasty fruits, Myrciaria tenella var. "Red" is a great choice. Thanks to its slow growth, compact size and tasty fruits, it is one of the very interesting species for every collector of exotic plants.
