This rare variety was introduced by the famous collector Adolf Grimal. Jaboticaba Grimal is valued for its large fruits up to 4 cm in size, deep purple to black in color, with a thicker skin and a slightly gelatinous, sweet pulp with small seeds. Unlike other varieties, the fruits have a longer shelf life (3 or more days without refrigeration) and a very high proportion of pulp - more than 60%. It tastes like a classic Sabara, but the fruits are larger, firmer and even sweeter.
This evergreen tree is not only an exotic decoration, but also an extremely fertile fruit rarity. The fruits grow directly on the trunk and branches, which makes it look absolutely unique. Grimal bears fruit several times a year - the first harvest can be expected after five to seven years, in ideal conditions from four years. In adulthood, it tolerates short-term frosts down to -5 °C, in a warm climate it can grow outdoors all year round, in our country only as a potted plant in a flower pot.
Jaboticaba Grimal requires regular watering and an acidic environment with a pH below 7.5. With good care, it bears fruit several times a year and is known for its vitality and high fertility.

Instructions for growing jaboticaba
Substrate:
Preferably more acidic and well-drained.
Recommended mixture: 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite, a little sand.
Watering:
Water only when the substrate is slightly dry.
In winter, reduce watering, pour out excess water from the tray after watering.
Growing location:
At home all year round: As close to a window as possible, with plenty of light.
Summering is possible outside on a terrace, garden, or balcony, but only from spring to autumn: Partial shade, later full sun.
Wintering:
Tropical plant – cannot tolerate temperatures below 5 °C for a long time. Winter at a min. temperature of 15C.
For the winter, place in the living room, bedroom, hallway, winter garden or tempered greenhouse, always as close to the window as possible.
Fertilization:
Regular water-soluble or granular fertilizers.
For plants under 2 years old, use half the dose.
Older plants can tolerate regular doses.
