In our e-shop we now offer a three-year-old, well-rooted and mature plant of this extremely interesting jaboticaba variety – INTA Jaboticaba, bred in Argentina. Thanks to its origin, resistance and fast growth, it is one of the most interesting species of the Plinia genus
This species comes from the province of Misiones in Argentina, where it was discovered more than twenty years ago and further bred by experts from the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA). The result of their work is a variety that is characterized by small, densely growing leaves and compact growth
The fruits are up to 3 cm in diameter, have a thin skin and a typical long petiole. They taste very similar to the well-known Brazilian variety Sabará, but with an even sweeter and fuller taste. The flesh is juicy, translucent white, pleasantly aromatic and ideal for direct consumption.
One of the greatest benefits of this variety is the excellent shelf life of the fruits after harvest - they retain their freshness even after 7 days, including three days without refrigeration. This makes INTA Jaboticaba extremely suitable for commercial cultivation and transportation over long distances.
As for cultivation, Jaboticaba INTA begins to bear fruit 5 years after planting, which is significantly earlier than most other species of this genus. Larger plants are resistant to short-term mild frosts and can handle temperatures down to -5 °C.
