This variety of Surinamese cherry and possibly a unique species that produces small, sweet red ripening fruits similar to the common Surinamese cherry. Wild populations grow in the far southern regions of Brazil, making this species potentially one of the coldest Eugenia species. Adult plants can survive down to (-10 C). Leaves tend to be slimmer and more elongated than standard varieties.
