Eugenia uniflora Regina – the queen among pitangas

Immerse yourself in the world of the Surinamese cherry, popularly called pitanga, and discover one of the most sought-after varieties – Regina . This exceptional variant of Eugenia uniflora stands out with exceptionally large, almost black-colored fruits that amaze not only with their appearance, but also with their delicious, fully sweet taste. Certainly the best uniflora we have tasted.

The origin of this rare variety dates back to Portugal, where it was bred by an enthusiastic grower of tropical fruit plants. From a large number of seedlings, he selected the best plant and named it after his wife – Regina. Since then, Regina has won the hearts of pitanga growers around the world.

This evergreen shrub or small tree is an ornament to every garden and conservatory. It has shiny dark green leaves that acquire an attractive bronze hue when sprouting. In spring, it blooms with delicate white flowers that attract pollinators. The fruits are typically ribbed and turn a deep red to almost black color when ripe. They are very sweet, juicy and aromatic - ideal for direct consumption.

Regina  also grows well in a pot, where it grows to 100–150 cm. It is easy to shape and is suitable even for beginners. We offer strong seedlings from the fruits of our mother plant, which will reward you with exceptionally tasty fruits in about three years after planting.

The fruits can be consumed fresh or processed into jams, syrups, juices or liqueurs. Their rich taste also stands out perfectly in desserts.

Pitanga is adaptable and undemanding. In warm climates it grows outdoors all year round, in our conditions it is enough to move it to a bright, frost-free space for the winter.
