Eugenia sp. Murta da Santa Catarina is a very rare plant recently discovered in the Brazilian rainforest of the state of Santa Catarina. It is still waiting for its scientific name. Santa Catarina has a diverse climate due to its topography. The coastal areas are characterized by a humid subtropical climate with average warm temperatures throughout the year of 20–28 °C and rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year, with a wetter season from November to March.
This compact shrub with reddish-brown bark and colorful leaves produces delicious, sweet, purple-black berries. The fruits have the same size, skin thickness and seed-to-flesh ratio as Grumichama, but the taste is slightly different than Eugenie brasiliensis. It prefers temperatures above 10 °C and well-drained soil. Its compact growth, early fruiting (about 4 years) and delicious fruits make it ideal for growing in containers.
