Out of stock Preparing to winter 2026

Eugenia pisiformis var. 'Urucucu' is an exceptionally rare form of the Brazilian Eugenia pisiformis. Originating from the species-rich coastal Restinga habitats of Brazil, this remarkable variety is widely considered by collectors to be one of the most delicious Eugenia species of all.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by a very compact, shrub-like growth habit and dense, glossy green foliage. In the wild, it reaches a height of only about 2 meters, remaining significantly smaller than many other fruit trees. Its naturally compact stature makes it ideal for long-term container cultivation.

It produces an abundance of small, nearly spherical fruits along its slender branches; when fully ripe, they take on a stunning dark crimson to purple-black hue. The fruits measure approximately 2 cm in diameter, featuring a thin, edible skin and tender, juicy flesh within.

Flavor is a primary reason why this variety is so highly prized among collectors. The fruit is remarkably sweet and pleasant, with no trace of astringency or bitterness. Its taste is often likened to sweet strawberries and represents one of the finest flavor profiles the Eugenia genus has to offer.

For optimal growth, it requires temperatures of approximately 18–28°C, ample light, high humidity, and regular watering. The growing medium should be well-draining. The combination of a compact, shrubby growth habit, an enormous quantity of attractive fruit, their magnificent color, and—above all—exceptional flavor makes Eugenia pisiformis var. Urucucu one of the truly remarkable Eugenia species.

The combination of a compact, shrub-like growth habit, an abundance of attractive fruit, stunning coloration, and—above all—exceptional flavor makes Eugenia pisiformis var. Urucucu a truly remarkable Eugenia.

Eugenia pisiformis var. Urucucu is a genuine rarity, not only here but also outside its native range in South America. It appears on the market only sporadically, primarily because it is a rare form; seeds from its natural habitats reach the market in very limited quantities. Consequently, its availability outside South America is extremely limited, and it rarely finds its way to growers. For this reason, any specimen of this variety located outside its native region makes for a fascinating and unusual addition to a collection.

If you are looking for something truly unique for your collection, Eugenia pisiformis var. Urucucu is exactly the kind of plant you won't see just anywhere. Acquire your own plant and cultivate a piece of Brazilian exoticism that ranks among true collector's rarities.
