Ubajai, as it is known in its native South America—specifically in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Bolivia—is an exceptionally attractive and still relatively rare tropical fruit tree. The seedlings we offer come from an outstanding variety distinguished by extra-large fruits reaching up to 8 cm in diameter, placing it among the most interesting ubajai selections available to growers.

It is a densely branched, evergreen tree or shrub that reaches a height of around 4 meters in natural conditions. When grown in a container, it can easily be maintained at a height of up to approximately 150 cm.

Ubajai fruits are the main reason why this Eugenia species is gaining increasing popularity. In this variety, the fruits are round to slightly flattened, extremely juicy, and turn a deep yellow-orange color when fully ripe. The flavor is sweet and refreshing with a gentle acidity, often compared to peaches. Thanks to their dense and rich pulp, the fruits are excellent not only for fresh consumption but also for making jams, juices, syrups, and jellies.

Ubajai is a highly adaptable and resilient plant. It thrives in full sun as well as in partial shade and performs best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Although it originates from warmer regions, it can tolerate short-term temperature drops down to –6 °C. In areas with prolonged cold weather, container growing is recommended. Under good conditions, the plant begins to fruit approximately 3–6 years after planting, with most plants fruiting around the fourth to sixth year in our climate.

In addition to their excellent taste, ubajai fruits are valued for their high content of vitamins and antioxidants, which support immunity and overall health. Eugenia myrcianthes is therefore not only a beautiful and exotic plant but also a practical fruit tree well suited for container cultivation.
