Eugenia uniflora Orange – a tropical beauty with delicious fruits

Discover the magic of the Surinamese cherry, known as pitanga, which enchants with its beautiful fruits, ornamental appearance and unpretentiousness in cultivation. This evergreen shrub or small tree comes from tropical South America, where it grows mainly in Brazil.

The Orange variety offered is very rare and sought after among collectors of tropical plants. It stands out especially for its exceptionally large fruits, which ripen to a distinctive orange color. These fruits are very sweet, with a mild acidity, and absolutely great for direct consumption immediately after picking.

It has shiny dark green leaves, which acquire an attractive reddish-brown tint when sprouting. In spring, it is covered with tiny white flowers that attract pollinators. Pitanga fruits have a typical ribbed shape and when ripe they change color from green to orange to dark red, black, or even orange in the Orange variety. They are juicy, sweet, aromatic and their taste resembles cherries, but with an exotic touch.

This undemanding plant is also ideal for beginners. When grown in a pot, it grows to 100–150 cm and can be easily shaped. We offer seedlings derived from the fruits of our plant, which will reward you with large, orange, sweet fruits. The first fruits appear approximately three years after planting.

The fruits can be consumed fresh, but they can also be used to make jams, syrups, juices or liqueurs. Their distinctive aroma will perfectly complement desserts and other delicacies.

Pitanga easily adapts to various conditions. We grow it either all year round at home by the window, or from spring to autumn outside on the terrace, balcony or garden and bring it home in the autumn.
