Eugenia sp. "Ameixa Pequena" in translation small plum is a lesser known but very attractive species of eugenia originating from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It grows as a compact very small shrub, which makes it an ideal choice for smaller spaces and growing in containers. Thanks to its modest size, it is easy to harvest, maintenance is undemanding, and the plant is therefore suitable for growers who want to expand their collection with something truly unusual.
The main attraction of this eugenia is its fruits, which resemble small plums in shape and taste. The flesh is sweet, juicy and has an unmistakable plum flavor, which is a real rarity in the Eugenia genus. The fruits are excellent for direct consumption, but also suitable for preparing jams, desserts or refreshing drinks, thanks to which they find wide culinary application.
Although it is a species with excellent taste and easy growth, it is still relatively rare in cultivation. The plant prefers a warm subtropical climate, well-drained soil and full to partial sun. Its origin suggests that it could tolerate slightly lower temperatures.
