Campomanesia sessiliflora "Guabiroba verde" is a rare species native to Paraguay and central and eastern Brazil. It ranks among the tastiest species in the Campomanesia genus and is prized primarily for its large, juicy, sweet-and-sour fruit.
The fruit grows to approximately 4 cm in size and retains a bright green color even when fully ripe. The flesh is firm, juicy, and delicious. The fruit is excellent for eating fresh off the tree and is also used to make juices, jams, jellies, and delicious ice cream. Thanks to its flavor and size, it also holds interesting potential for the exotic fruit market.
The plant itself is ideal for container growing, as it forms a small shrub or tree, making it easy to keep compact. It features a distinctive zigzagging trunk with thin bark that peels easily to the touch, as well as small leaves with prominent yellow veins on the upper surface.
It is a slow-growing species, especially in its youth; seedlings reach approximately 20 cm after 12 months in the nursery. Under favorable conditions, it can begin fruiting as early as its third year. Young plants are sensitive to drought and require ample moisture during their first year. Once well-established, their resilience increases significantly, and the plant can withstand short periods of temperatures around -3°C. It can thrive at various altitudes.

Growing instructions for Campomanesia sessiliflora
Substrate:
Ideally slightly acidic and well-draining.
Recommended mix: 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite, a little sand.
Watering:
Keep the substrate consistently slightly moist.
Reduce watering in winter; discard any excess water from the saucer after watering.
Growing location:
Indoors year-round: As close to a window as possible, with plenty of light.
Summering outdoors: Can be placed on a terrace, in the garden, or on a balcony from spring to autumn only; start in partial shade, then move to full sun.
Overwintering:
Tropical plant – cannot tolerate temperatures below 5°C for extended periods. Overwinter at a minimum temperature of 10°C or higher.
In winter, place in a living room, bedroom, hallway, conservatory, or heated greenhouse—always as close to a window as possible.
Fertilization:
Standard water-soluble or granular fertilizers.
