Amorphophallus titanum, also known as the titan arum or "corpse flower", is rightly considered one of the most remarkable plants in the world. This fascinating giant of the tropical forests of West Sumatra can produce the largest unbranched inflorescence in the entire plant kingdom. The flower, which emits a strong scent reminiscent of rotting flesh, attracts pollinators, and also gives the plant its famous nickname.
A single leaf grows from a huge underground tuber, resembling a tropical tree. Each growing season lasts from a few months to two years, during which the tuber constantly grows and stores energy. This phase is followed by a dormant period, when the plant retreats into the tuber and you can see nothing above the ground for a certain period. This rhythmic cycle of growth and rest is the key to its long-lasting survival.
Growing Amorphophallus titanum is a challenge for true enthusiasts – it is not a plant for the impatient. It can take up to ten years from a young plant to its first flower. However, caring for it is not complicated, but it does require consistency, patience and an understanding of its natural rhythm. It thrives in partial shade, constant heat and airy, organic and well-drained soil. It needs moisture during growth, but not waterlogging, and only a slightly moist substrate during dormancy.
As the tuber gradually grows stronger, the plant is transplanted into larger containers. With a tuber weight of at least 9kg – after years of care, watering, transplanting and observation – the patient grower can be rewarded with what most people only see in botanical gardens: a huge flower as if from another world.
The flowering of the titan arum is a magical, almost sacred moment. The flower develops during the night, when it begins to emit its famous scent, and in just two days it develops its full strength and beauty. Then the inflorescence closes and the plant retreats back into its underground rest.
Amorphophallus titanum is a symbol of patience, dedication and fascination with nature. It represents the fusion of science, art and passion for plants in one extraordinary life form. Anyone who can grow it to bloom becomes part of a close-knit community of growers who have touched one of the greatest wonders of the plant kingdom.

Growing instructions for Amorphophallus titanum
Substrate:
Preferably more acidic and well-drained
Recommended mixture: 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite, a little sand
Watering:
Try to keep the substrate constantly moist, but not completely soaked or dry.
When the plant is dormant, reduce watering, but do not let the soil dry out... it should be like a well-wrung sponge... barely damp to the touch. You can use the finger test... stick your finger into the substrate about 3.8 cm and if our finger is cold or damp, then we DO NOT NEED to water
Growing location:
Year-round at home: As close to a window as possible, with plenty of light.
Summering is possible outside on a terrace, garden, or balcony, but only from spring to autumn: Shade - Partial shade - in full sun the leaves will burn.
Wintering:
Tropical plant - cannot tolerate temperatures below 10 °C for a long time. Winter at a minimum temperature of 20 C
If the plant is exposed to low temperatures, it will be forced into a dormant period. And long-term low temperatures (below 7 °C) will kill the plant. To support growth for as long as possible, daily temperatures should be above 20 °C
Fertilization:
Fertilizers Ordinary water-soluble or granular
Suitable fertilizer:
long-term granular fertilizer OSMOCOTE
