Repotting

When you purchase a plant from our nursery, there is usually no need to repot it immediately. Allow your plant time to adapt to its new environment and repot it the following spring.

Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the original one, preferably deeper rather than wider. The pot must have adequate drainage holes to allow excess water to drain away freely. Avoid placing the pot inside decorative cachepots that prevent proper drainage, as standing water encourages fungal diseases and root problems.

For the best results, use coarse peat moss mixed with perlite.

Recommended soil mix:

• 2 parts peat moss
• 1 part perlite
• Optional: a small amount of coarse sand to improve drainage

Do not use garden soil, compost or acidic ornamental plant soil (such as heather soil).

The recommended soil composition for each species can always be found in the individual plant description.

Afterwards, plan to repot your plants once per year (spring is ideal), or at most twice a year (spring and late summer). Gradually increase the pot size as the root system develops. The roots should have enough room to grow, but not an excessively large pot, allowing the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings.
